Travel Tips
Passport and Visa
To enter Bali or Indonesia each
visitor is requested signed passport that is valid at least six
months beyond his/her scheduled departure date from Indonesia.
Nations of western countries are guaranteed a 60-days,
non-extendable visa upon arrivals in Indonesia. Citizens of ASEAN
(Association of South East Asia Nations) countries are not
required a visa, only a valid travel document. Please check with
your local Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your country of
origin before commencing vacation.
Keep a copy
Always keep a copy of your passport, driver's license, credit
cards, tickets and insurance policy somewhere separate. This will
make it easy for you to prove who you are to your Consulate in the
case of theft, getting lost or filling out report to the police
who make out report for your consulate. Verification of identity
and citizenship takes about three weeks, which involves going to
the immigration office in Denpasar or at the airport.
Currency
The local currency Rupiah notes: 100,
500, 1.000, 5.000, 10.000, 20.000, 50.000, 100.000. And the coins:
25, 50, 100, 500, 1.000.
The Indonesian Rupiah offers very favorable rates of exchange and
selling-purchasing against most foreign currencies. We recommend
you to carry US Dollars or travelers cheque. However, when
traveling to the village, take Rupiah with you. Keep small change
handy when riding in public transportation or buying food and
drinks at warung. Always ask for an official receipt at the time
of transaction and take your time to make sure the money received
matches the total shown on the receipt. Please note that some of
the banks and money changers refuse to accept foreign bank notes
that are soled, up to generally poor condition.
Driving License
If you wish to hire a car, you must
be over 18 years of age and posses an international driving
license from ASEAN countries. It is not wise to drive around
without one, for in the case of being stopped by the police,
driving license is always requested. If you do not have one, you
will have to bargain hard on how much you are willing to pay.
Clothing
Balinese are generally modest in
their modes of dress and believe that the best sign of respect to
another is correct attire. It is better to dress correctly to be
able to enter the temple. Going to Bali, dress casually and take
light clothes, as the weather is warm to hot throughout the year,
although sometimes it can be chilly in some months such as June
and July.
